Cocreated with teachers, administrators, and academic experts, the Microduino STEM MIX Kit Series 1-4 offers a powerful learning system that progressively teaches elementary and middle school students electronic circuitry, coding, and product design.
Numbered 1-4, each Microduino MIX Kit includes a combination of hardware components, coding resources, and extensive instructional materials to guide students step by step through challenging in-class product development and coding projects. Each subsequent MIX Kit focuses on more sophisticated concepts so students can further their abilities to think logically and sequentially as well as solve life and technology-focused problems.
Rather than focus on one project, each kit level offers 12 projects and encourages students to design and build their own applications based on the subject matter they learn. The intent is for students to take the STEM/STEAM knowledge they have acquired and then use it to create their own imaginative designs. Collectively, the four learning systems represent an innovative, hands-on approach to STEM education with an emphasis on learning coding using the beloved Scratch software from MIT.
STEM Mix Kit 3 extends the underlying logic of coding to more advanced controls and behaviors, and it moves students from turning on a single light to programming and sequencing multiple actions that work together to achieve common goals. Included with this kit are the Microduino magnetic, snap-together blocks, additional building elements for creating projects, and extensive teacher and student instructional manuals. In MIX Kit 3, students learn:
- A wider range of component actions.
- Sequential logic that creates interconnected dynamic behaviors, such as those in smart home environments.
- A prelude to artificial intelligence (AI), human logic, and how programming effectively corresponds to this ecosystem.
Each Microduino STEM MIX Kit is intended to be shared by two to three students.
All MIX Kit activities featured in the extensive instructional materials are correlated to NGSS, ISTE, and CCSS for Grades 5-12. The Microduino STEM MIX Kit 3 Curriculum Pack is available for print here, or you can download a digital copy for free here.
