Elementary teachers have little time in their day to insert another initiative. Everyday STEM Professional Development Units guide teachers in connecting STEM concepts within their everyday lessons and activities.
This professional development unit builds upon Everyday STEM Unit 1 and enhances teachers’ understanding of the technology and engineering design process. It provides hands-on experiences to help teachers understand and teach the design process with activities such as creating geometric creatures, words, and moving parts using paper engineering.
The design loop introduced in this unit was developed by elementary teachers and has been successfully used with thousands of elementary students across the country. The included text helps teachers learn to tie into unexpected subjects – such as reading and history – to teach engineering to young children.
This unit contains materials for hosting a 90-minute local workshop that is perfect for both new and seasoned teachers who want to integrate STEM in their classrooms.
Recommended but not included:
- Additional copies of Children’s Engineering: A Handbook for Elementary Educators – one per workshop participant
