WHAT'S INCLUDED
  • Creating Catapults: Assemble and test a catapult’s accuracy and then develop your own game.
  • Creating Rolling Vehicles: Build, test, learn, and innovate with fold-up paper racers, and later add a balloon for jet power!
  • Creating Truss Bridges: Construct an initial truss bridge out of craft sticks, and then design a longer one and test its load-bearing capabilities.
  • Creating Inventions: Use the included materials to cycle through the engineering design process to first engineer a simple elevator and tractor pull, and later create your own invention!
  • Creating Friction Climbers: Construct a simple climbing mechanism and learn how friction makes it seem to defy gravity!

Five Projects That Demand Real Problem-Solving

The STEM Creator Pack moves beyond guided activities into genuine engineering challenges. Students build, test, fail, redesign, and succeed—developing the persistence and creativity that define real engineers.
Creating Catapults

Creating Catapults

Students assemble and test a catapult for accuracy, analyze the physics of projectile motion, and then design their own game that applies what they learned about force and trajectory.

Creating Rolling Vehicles

Creating Rolling Vehicles

Students build fold-up paper racers, test performance variables, learn about friction and momentum, then add balloon jet power to explore Newton's Third Law in action.

Creating Truss Bridges

Creating Truss Bridges

Students construct a truss bridge from craft sticks, learn how triangular structures distribute load, then design a longer span and test its load-bearing capacity to failure.

Creating Inventions

Creating Inventions

Students cycle through the full engineering design process to build a simple elevator and tractor pull, then apply those skills to create their own original invention from scratch.

What Students Will Do

Each project builds engineering confidence by progressing from guided construction to open-ended design, giving students ownership of their solutions.
  • Build and test a catapult, then design a catapult-based game
  • Construct paper racers and add balloon jet propulsion
  • Engineer truss bridges and test load capacity to failure
  • Build an elevator and tractor pull, then invent something new
  • Construct a friction climber that defies gravity
  • Apply the engineering design process in every project

From Guided Build to Original Design

Each Creating project follows a progression that builds engineering independence.

Step 1: Build the Baseline—Students follow the activity guide to construct a working version of each project—a catapult, a racer, a bridge, an elevator, or a climber. This guided phase teaches core concepts and building techniques.

Step 2: Test and Analyze—Students test their builds, gather data, and identify what works and what doesn't. The challenges push students to think critically about variables like force, friction, load distribution, and momentum.

Step 3: Redesign and Innovate—The final challenges in each project ask students to apply what they learned to an open-ended design problem—build a game, add propulsion, extend a bridge, or invent something entirely new.

Engineering Thinking for Middle School

The Creator Pack develops the specific skills that middle school students need to succeed in STEM: iterative design, data-driven decision making, and creative problem-solving under constraints.

Catapults teach force and trajectory.

Rolling Vehicles explore friction, momentum, and Newton's Laws.

Truss Bridges demonstrate structural engineering and load distribution.

Inventions develop the full design cycle from problem identification to prototyping. Friction Climbers reveal how surface interaction enables mechanical advantage.

Reading and art integration connects technical learning to communication and creative expression, building well-rounded STEM thinkers

Frequently Asked Questions

What does "Option 1" and "Option 2" mean on the product page?

The STEM Creator Pack is available in two variant options at different price points. Both include the same five Creating projects. Check the product page for current variant details and pricing.

How is this different from the Custom STEM Creator Pack?

The standard Creator Pack includes five pre-selected Creating projects. The Custom version (currently on clearance) allowed customers to choose five from ten available Creating projects.

What physics concepts do students learn?

Across the five projects, students explore projectile motion, friction, momentum, Newton's Third Law, structural load distribution, and mechanical advantage; all through hands-on building and testing.

Is this appropriate for advanced 5th graders or struggling 9th graders?

The Creator Pack is designed for Grades 6-8. Advanced 5th graders may enjoy the challenge, while students above 8th grade may prefer the Innovator Pack (Grades 9-12) for more complex projects.

How long do the five projects take to complete?

Each project includes three challenges and typically takes two to four sessions. All five projects together provide several weeks of STEM engagement.

Do students need any tools or extra supplies?

No. All materials are included in the box. Students need only a flat workspace and access to the bilingual activity guides.
