Read Aloud: Teacher reads The Dot to the class. Students discuss Vashti’s journey from “I can’t draw” to signing her dot with pride.

Explore: Students use dot stickers to create patterns, then use geoboards and rubber bands to explore shapes and spatial reasoning.

Build: Each student receives craft supplies and designs a creation inspired by starting with a single dot—building outward into something bigger.

Share: Students present their creations and explain how one small idea grew into their final design.

Growth Mindset Through STEM—The Dot’s message about creative courage gives students permission to try, fail, and iterate—the heart of engineering design.

Art and Math Integration—Dot patterns, geoboard geometry, and creative building blend visual art with spatial reasoning and measurement.

Collaborative Learning—Students share ideas, give feedback on each other’s designs, and celebrate different approaches to the same challenge.
