Structures STEM Boost Kit

Observe. Build. Classify.
Observe
Young learners begin by noticing structures in the world around them: buildings, furniture, bridges, trees. The student guide directs attention to what holds things up, what shapes appear most often, and what makes a structure stable â observation as the entry point to engineering thinking.
Build
Students use rocket body tubes and pipe cleaners to build their own shapes and structures. The flexible, sculptable nature of pipe cleaners and the rigidity of cardboard tubes create an immediate contrast: students discover through building what makes a structure hold together or fall apart.
Classify
Students sort and group the structures they build and observe. Classifying by shape, stability, or material is early science thinking â and the foundation for the more complex structural engineering challenges students will encounter in later grades.
Bilingual By Default
Two complete student guides â one in English, one in Spanish â are included in every kit at no extra cost. Every PreKâ2 learner engages with the full observe-build-classify experience in their home language without any modifications.
What Young Learners Will Do
- Observe structures in their environment: buildings, furniture, trees, bridges
- Describe what they notice â shapes, materials, what holds things up
- Build shapes and structures using rocket body tubes and pipe cleaners
- Test their structures: does it stand? Does the shape matter?
- Sort and classify structures by shape, material, or stability
- Notice the difference between structures that stay up and those that fall
- Connect what they built to structures they see in the real world

Why Teachers Love Structures STEM Boost Kit
Observation Is the Skill
Before students can test or build intentionally, they need to notice. This kit leads with observation: what do you see? What holds it up? What shape is it? Those questions are the foundation of all science thinking at PreKâ2.
Tactile Materials That Teach
Rocket body tubes and pipe cleaners aren't arbitrary supply choices. Rigid tubes paired with flexible wire teach material properties through touch before students have the vocabulary. The materials do instructional work on their own.
Bilingual Out of the Box
English and Spanish student guides are both in the box. PreKâ2 teachers in multilingual classrooms don't need to order separately or adapt anything â every student gets the full observe-build-classify experience in their home language.
One Student, One Kit
At $13.75 per kit for one early childhood student, cost-per-learner pricing is clear and predictable. Order exactly what your class needs with no bundle minimum or volume requirement.
Bridges Classroom and Real World
The student guide explicitly connects what students build to structures they can see outside the classroom window. Place-based learning at PreKâ2 doesn't require a field trip â it requires a good question and a window.
Supplement, Not a Replacement
Designed to extend or enrich existing early childhood science instruction. Works as a standalone activity in 45â60 minutes with no additional teacher prep beyond handing out the kit.
