The Kitronik Mini Prong Soil Moisture Sensor features two conductive tines that can be inserted directly into the soil to monitor moisture conditions in real time. When moisture is present, the water in the soil conducts electricity between the tines, producing an analog voltage signal that can be read by the micro:bit. The sensor is powered directly from the micro:bit’s 3V supply; use either the USB or JST connector on the micro:bit to power the circuit.
Note: To extend the life of the sensor and ensure reliable performance, it is recommended that moisture levels are checked on an interval basis rather than continuously. Continuous use can cause the electrodes to wear down more quickly.
