Using this kit, students will explore and simulate dynamic processes that shape the earth, including the formation of mountains, volcanoes, and new lands. Each kit includes all the materials for two students to complete six NGSS-aligned activities:
- Slide, smash, and crash plate tectonics together to explore evidence-based explanations for how geoscience processes change Earth’s surface.
- Use chemistry to erupt a volcano. Then, create a model to describe the cycling of Earth’s materials, the flow of energy that drives this process, and how volcanoes change the surface of the Earth.
- Use observations and analysis from both the volcano and plate tectonic investigations to explain why some future catastrophic events can be forecasted and others cannot.
- Do a fossil dig and discover an ancient shark tooth buried deep in the Grand Canyon. Then, use this discovery to provide evidence of past plate motions.
- Create an erosion lab and model wind, river, rain, flood, and ocean erosion.
