Step 1—Unbox and Dock: Place all six Bee-Bot robots on the rechargeable docking station. Plug the docking station in and let the robots charge fully before first use.

Step 2—Set Up Your Space: Place Bee-Bots on a flat surface. If you've purchased mats separately, lay one out as a coding surface. If not, use any flat surface—students can code on desks, tables, or the floor.

Step 3—Introduce Bee-Bot: Show students the directional buttons on top of Bee-Bot—forward, back, left turn, right turn, go, and clear. Demonstrate a simple two- or three-step program.

Step 4—Code in Groups: Divide students into groups of four around each Bee-Bot. Students take turns planning routes, programming sequences, and pressing GO to watch Bee-Bot execute their code.

Step 5—Try Pen Holders: Snap a pen holder onto Bee-Bot and insert a marker. Students program shapes, letters, and patterns—turning coding into a drawing activity that reinforces geometry and spatial reasoning.

Step 6—Expand Over Time: Add cross-curricular mats, activity tins, and the Changeable Maze or Obstacle Course as your program grows. Bee-Bot Basics gives you the foundation—you choose the direction.

Career-Connected Computer Science

Bee-Bot introduces the foundational coding and problem-solving skills that drive careers in technology, engineering, and design. As students program Bee-Bot using simple directional buttons, they practice the same sequencing, debugging, and logical reasoning used by software developers, robotics engineers, and logistics professionals.

Industry Applications: Computer programming, robotics engineering, game design, logistics and planning, automation, and educational technology.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between Bee-Bot Basics and the Getting Started Package?

Bee-Bot Basics includes six robots, a docking station, and pen holders—the essentials for a full-class coding program. The Getting Started Package adds cross-curricular mats, activity tins, and a 30-hour activity guide. Choose Basics if you want to pick your own accessories; choose the Getting Started Package if you want everything in one box.

What mats and accessories should I buy with Bee-Bot Basics?

It depends on your curriculum. Popular additions include the Changeable Maze for open-ended challenges, the World Bundle for geography, and the PreK-2 Activity Bundle for math, ELA, and SEL integration. Contact Pitsco for help building a custom package.

Do I need coding experience to use Bee-Bot?

Not at all. Bee-Bot was designed for educators with no prior coding background. Students program directly using the buttons on top of the robot—no software, no setup, no troubleshooting.

What are the pen holders for?

Pen holders snap onto each Bee-Bot and hold a marker, crayon, or pen. Students program Bee-Bot to draw shapes, letters, and patterns—turning coding into a hands-on drawing activity that reinforces geometry and letter formation.

How does the docking station work?

The docking station holds all six Bee-Bots and charges them simultaneously via a single USB connection. Plug it in at the end of the day and every robot is fully charged by morning.

Can I upgrade to the Getting Started Package later?

You can always purchase individual mats, activity tins, and the activity guide separately. If you know you want the full set, the Getting Started Package offers better value than buying each piece individually.
