Birds fly and glide effortlessly; it takes a little more effort and understanding for humans to accomplish flight. Balsa glider activities are a great way for students to understand lift, center of gravity, the four forces of flight, glide angles, and the design of aircraft – not exactly birdbrained topics!
The Balsa Gliders Teacher’s Guide contains ITEEA, NCTM, and NSTA standards addressed; teacher and student instructions for a variety of math, science, and technology activities; pretests and posttests; resource pages; and puzzles. Contains separate activities for middle school and high school students.
Equipment and materials needed to complete guide activities include the Balsa Gliders – Getting Started Package, tape measure or ruler (with mm markings), stopwatch, hobby knife, ruler, rubber bands, and standard classroom tools and materials. Note: This list is for all activities; individual activities don’t require all listed materials.
