Give students a hands-on introduction to solar energy, engineering, and vehicle design with the SunEzoon Solar Car. Students build a working solar-powered vehicle from individual components, connect the solar panel to a motor, and see photovoltaic energy converted into motion. The simple mechanical assembly requires no soldering or glue guns, making SunEzoon an approachable way to bring renewable energy and engineering concepts to students in grades 3–12. Once the car is built, the learning doesn’t stop. Students can investigate how sunlight affects performance, explore gear ratios, measure speed and distance, collect and graph data, and use what they learn to improve their vehicle. Challenge students to change the angle of the solar panel, experiment with gearing, or engineer a vehicle that can climb an incline. With the included STEM connections and optional SunEzoon Cars Teacher’s Guide, one simple solar car can become the starting point for lessons in science, technology, engineering, and math.

Why Teachers Love SunEzoon Solar Cars

Build a Working Solar Vehicle

Build a Working Solar Vehicle

Students assemble their own car, connect the solar panel to the motor, and see sunlight transformed into electrical energy and motion.

Make Renewable Energy Visible

Make Renewable Energy Visible

Instead of simply learning about photovoltaics, students can observe the effects of sunlight firsthand by testing their cars in full sun, shade, or at different panel angles.

Explore Real Engineering Concepts

Explore Real Engineering Concepts

Use gears, wheels, motors, and vehicle design to introduce concepts such as gear ratios, speed, velocity, acceleration, friction, and mechanical advantage.

Test, Measure, and Improve

Test, Measure, and Improve

Students can time their vehicles, measure distance and speed, collect performance data, graph results, and use evidence to make design improvements.

Turn One Build Into Multiple Challenges

Turn One Build Into Multiple Challenges

Go beyond basic construction with engineering challenges such as changing gear configurations, optimizing solar panel positioning, or designing a vehicle that can climb an incline.

Accessible for Grades 3–12

Accessible for Grades 3–12

Simple mechanical assembly makes SunEzoon approachable for younger students, while the same vehicle can support deeper physics, math, engineering, and renewable-energy investigations with older students.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the SunEzoon Solar Car?

The SunEzoon Solar Car is a hands-on kit that lets students build a working solar-powered vehicle. Students assemble the chassis, wheels, gears, motor, and solar panel, then test their vehicle using sunlight.

What grades is the SunEzoon Solar Car designed for?

SunEzoon is designed for students in grades 3–12. Younger students can focus on basic construction and solar energy, while older students can investigate engineering, physics, mathematics, data collection, and vehicle performance.

Does the kit require soldering or a glue gun?

No. SunEzoon uses basic mechanical assembly and does not require soldering or a glue gun. Students will need scissors and a hobby knife or sandpaper, which are not included. Adult supervision is required when using sharp tools.

Can the car work indoors?

Yes. SunEzoon cars work outdoors in full sunlight and can also be operated indoors under a bright incandescent light. Outdoor testing on a smooth, level surface is recommended for best performance.

What can students learn with the SunEzoon Solar Car?

Students can explore photovoltaic energy, gears and gear ratios, speed, velocity, acceleration, distance, data collection, graphing, and engineering design. Activities can also incorporate measurement with a voltmeter or multimeter and investigations into how the angle and intensity of light affect performance.

Can students modify or improve their cars?

Yes. SunEzoon is well suited for iterative design challenges. Students can experiment with gear configurations, solar panel positioning, and other aspects of vehicle performance, then test their changes and use the results to guide further improvements.

Is there curriculum or teacher support available?

Yes. Pitsco offers a free digital SunEzoon Cars Teacher’s Guide, User Guide, and STEM Connections resource. The Teacher’s Guide provides additional activities and lessons that extend the car into math, science, and engineering learning.
