About the Bot

With connections to English, math, science, and music, LUMA is a great fit for educators who want to incorporate coding into core subjects. The standards-aligned curriculum provides 40 hours of animated, student-driven content. Because students are encouraged to work with partners, the activities cover a variety of tech and 21st-century topics and skills:

Creativity in Action

While LUMA includes step-by-step instructions, students are also encouraged to flex their creative muscles. They can program LUMA to:

Draw lines and shapes and drive in patterns.
Follow a line and detect obstacles.
Play sounds and music.
Create light shows and animations.

Plus, students can engineer attachments to the robot using LEGO® technic pegs and beams.

LUMA’s Story

Students become active participants as they engage in LUMA's story. They’re invited by LUMA’s two inventors to embark on a journey helping different businesses: learners discover which industry professionals will find LUMA to be the most useful and then learn how to write and test code for LUMA to perform tasks along the way.

As students work, they’ll learn how companies can use robots to be more effective and efficient. Students even explore 11 different careers not typically associated with computer science, from restaurant owner and event specialist to sound engineer and emergency responder.

Throughout the activities, students take notes in their Coding Journal and test their knowledge through quizzes, checkpoints, exploration activities, and challenges.
