Located: Charlotte, North Carolina
Number years teaching: I have being teaching for a total of 14 years.
What do you teach and what grade?
I teach fifth-grade science. I also have the pleasure of teaching sixth graders STEM (Engineering) part-time in the GEP (Greater Enrichment Program) after school.
Why do you like what you teach?
Teaching science to young scholars not only brings excitement, it also challenges me. When I think of the subject of science with my fifth and sixth graders, I reflect that I am designing an academic pathway for my students to become knowledgeable and inquisitive thinkers in the world.
Did you always want to be a teacher?
I’ve always had a passion for becoming a teacher. I remember one teacher who encouraged me every day to be my best without her knowing it. She taught me how to love education by the way she introduced the lessons with excitement. She would build academic relationships and encourage her students to explore and challenge their learning by just trying.
Why do you like to teach with hands-on products?
I like teaching science by integrating hands-on products because the students are able to retain and relate their understanding better to content.
How does using hands-on products improve the students’ learning experiences?
Hands-on products improve the students’ learning experiences by encouraging scholars to become effective, inquiry-based learners. The use of hands-on products allows them the opportunity to continue to improve their cooperative learning as they investigate along with designing.
How long have you been using Pitsco Education products?
I’ve been using Pitsco Education products for three years.
What is your favorite Pitsco Education product and why?
When introducing force and motion to my students, the aerospace items are my favorite products from Pitsco Education. I use the model airplanes, parachutes, and straw rockets kit to support the scholars’ knowledge and understanding of gravity, acceleration, velocity, air resistance, and other concepts.
How do the students respond to Pitsco Education products?
The students are active learners with the Pitsco Education products. They are energized with excitement when they are able to incorporate the scientific method with the engineering design process to complete their selected model challenge.
