Rammed-earth construction turns soil into strong, dense walls in a short time. The mass of these walls nearly eliminates heat (and noise) transfer, making it an excellent choice for energy-efficient building. With our kit, your students can construct a model rammed-earth house. Each kit includes a reusable ram, a high-density polyethylene slip form that can be used again and again and will last for many years, a foundation board, a foam board for the roof, EPS for the gables and rafters, and wood to frame the window and door. Detailed, illustrated instructions with tips for finishing the exterior of the model are also included. Reject sand (containing clay) and Portland cement can be obtained inexpensively from local sand and gravel suppliers. The amounts needed for the kit are included in the instructions. This kit is recommended for high school students.
For each additional rammed-earth house built with this kit, you will need the following consumable items:
- 1/8" x 12" x 16" Foam Board (12752)
- Site Board (31248)
- 1/8" x 1" x 12" Basswood Strip (31249)
