New Pitsco Professional E-learning Courses

Asynchronous courses cover robotics, coding, PBL, and STEM from various angles

Published October 6, 2021

PITTSBURG, KS (October 6, 2021) – Pitsco Education, which for years has provided in-depth professional development (PD) related to its continuum of products, activities, curriculum, and whole-class solutions, has now expanded teachers' PD options even more with the release of new professional e-learning courses available for project-based learning, robotics, coding, and STEM.

The courses present instructors with videos, downloadable resources, and quizzes designed to enhance understanding of each subject and increase the comfort level for implementing these solutions in the classroom. Upon finishing each course, participants will receive a certificate of completion, which can be used for continuing education credits. Links to the various e-learning courses can be found at Pitsco.com/Shop/Professional-Learning-Courses.

A 2021 study by the Council of Great City Schools emphasizes the need for teachers to have ongoing access to high-quality PD. It maintains that high-quality PD “must be actionable and contextualized within the framework of daily classroom life – whether those classrooms are physical, virtual, or hybrid” (“Advancing Instruction and Leadership in the Nation's Great City Schools”).

All Pitsco e-learning courses employ the Teachable platform, meaning participants can access high-quality PD at their own convenience, anytime, anywhere. “We wanted to be able to engage our learners better than we could through webinars, which tend to be static,” explained Education Manager Tim Cannell. “This platform really gives power to the learner to pick those options of when they want to complete the course, and they're not so dependent upon the physical constraints you might have with traditional professional development.”

In addition to e-learning courses for Pitsco's Expeditions and STREAM Missions curricula, the following e-learning courses are currently available:

Course Name

Creating STEM PBL

Provides an overview of project-based learning, explains the components of STEM PBL, and provides instruction related to completing the Pitsco STEM PBL Planning Form. Participants learn how to design and develop their own STEM PBL Unit.

STEM Basics

Helps learners develop their own educationally sound STEM activity, provides hands-on learning tips and tricks, and outlines successful STEM learning facilitation.

Code Cube™

Introduces Code Cube™ – a wearable tech learning tool – and takes the learner through coding and curriculum, providing opportunity for hands-on practice.

Introduces the TETRIX® PRIME building system and takes users through the TETRIX PRIME R/C Builder’s Guide and pairing robotic creations with the control system.

Introduces the TETRIX MAX building system and takes users through a step-by-step building challenge.

Pitsco intends to continue the rollout of courses with the next three titles coming soon. They also still offer in-person training, but for schools dealing with COVID restrictions or wanting a different option, these e-learning courses are the perfect match. “Our preference still is to meet with the teachers face-to-face so we can build those relationships,” said Cannell. “But this gives them a robust remote-learning option as well.”
