What do you teach and to what grade(s)?
I teach gen ed/STEM in fifth grade.
Why do you like what you teach?
I love to teach science because it’s all around us! Sometimes, students come from a rough place, and they feel that education doesn’t matter. If you can show them the true value of their education, then you have inspired a different kind of student. I teach science because students need inspiration to find themselves. Science allows them to explore many different things in this world.
Did you always want to be a teacher?
No, I was in the US Air Force for eight years and found the importance of education. Fortunately, I was selected for the Paraprofessionals to Teachers program after I separated from the US Air Force . I also became a member of Troops to Teachers; in short, I became a permanent student. I’m excited to say that in May of this year I will be a NASA-certified educator!
Why do you like to teach with hands-on products?
I like to teach with hands-on products that connect to students in their time and that also give them the level of engagement they need.
How long have you been using Pitsco Education products?
I have been using Pitsco products for the last four years.
What is your favorite Pitsco Education product and why?
I love using rockets (the sky is not the limit), but I have learned to explore new products that are always being introduced.
What's your greatest teaching accomplishment?
I will have to get back to you on that in 20 years after I have inspired thousands of students! Take the good of each year and aim for the great in the next.
