STEM Challenges focuses on the skills students need to guide them through the engineering design process. It is designed to supplement science, technology, engineering, and math concepts through the use of small-group investigation and experimentation. STEM Challenges activities can be divided into either three or five steps, depending on the length of the course. Further, the blended instruction element enables the teacher to provide content regarding standards that might not otherwise be fully addressed.
Students are introduced to the engineering design process and presented an open-ended design challenge. Then, students are grouped to design a prototype, test the prototype, complete a peer review, make revisions, record all experimentation results and data in an Engineer Logbook, and present final designs.
